Moods Hair Salon - Tips on Deciding on your Wedding Style

Preparing your hair. With short to medium lengths - the more length you have to work with, the more options you have on your wedding day. Keep the ends trimmed every 6 weeks to keep it healthy, but maintain the length until your wedding day. If your hair is very, very long, there are very few up styles that are possible with your hair without having your style be very bulky, or your set not lasting. Talk to your stylist about taking a bit of length off and/or adding a few long layers to open up your options.

Months before your wedding be sure to start getting your hair healthy. Use only professional products and consider carefully any colour changes.

Schedule a trial one to 2 weeks before your wedding day. Come to your trial prepared. Bring photos of styles you like (or that you don’t like!) Pictures are a great way to communicate at the salon. Details of your wedding dress, headpieces and general theme of the wedding day are crucial when considering hair styles.

Run-way or Natural You? If it is important to you to be recognizably “you” in your look, be sure to choose a style for the front of your hair that is similar to the way you wear it. I.e.: parts, height, etc. if your want to break away from your everyday image, let your stylist know!

Up or down? Generally speaking, putting hair up is a more special and elegant style than down. Having your hair off the shoulders will show details of the dress beautifully. If your hair is straight, heavy, or hard to set, an up style will last longer throughout the day, whereas down styles will have the tendency to go frizzier and curl will drop over a long day. That being said, if you feel more comfortable with your hair down, talk to your stylist about options to get around these obstacles.

More pro-tips…

Prepare your hair a day before your appointment. Wash your hair the day before. Do not use any shine products, pomades, waxes, etc. (most leave-in products decrease the stay time for curls or other styles!) Come into the salon with your hair dry.
Book your appointment early so that there’s more stylists available. Your party will be all together and will be in and out faster.
Get your colour touched up 4 days to one week before your wedding day. Major changes to colour should be carefully considered and should be done at least a month in advance.
Record your travel time from the salon to where you are getting dressed. Make the day’s schedule as predictable as possible.
We love hairspray! Make sure to have a few bobby pins and a purse size spray with you.
Schedule nail appointments for the day before. This saves time.
